I do my Trout fishing on the beautiful McKenzie River (near Eugene). Depending on the weather, we can usually start Fly fishing for trout in mid March and it will hold up through October.

The McKenzie is a caddis rich river with hatches coming off from March –October. We can usually get fish on surface flies from mid March – October.

There are two different fisheries for Trout on the McKenzie, wild fish and hatchery fish. Depending on what you are after, if you want to catch fish to eat we will target the hatchery fish, if you are into catch and release, there are sections of the river that are managed for wild fish and there are no planted hatchery fish. Having a fish fry for lunch is a very popular option when targeting the hatchery fish, we will keep your fish fresh, pull over at a great lunch site, build a fire and cook your fish for lunch.

The average size hatchery trout is between 8-12 inches with the average size a little bigger for the wild fish, all wild trout must be released.

Limits are the rule when fishing for hatchery trout, we usually catch our limit then fish catch and release after that. An average day will see 10 20 fish brought to the boat.
